I hope you all had a happy 4th of July with your families. I would like to use this time to remind you of one of the many changes we as your elected Board accepted to introduce into the restructuring process of UNAA. We all agree that the way forward is to know how many we are and what UNAA can do for us. ...more
The first step in achieving this objective is by building a data bank of registered members with benefits. Late last year, I contacted and requested a group of distinguished members of our community to help put together a package that would be able to convince all or most of our compatriots to proudly belong to UNAA. This group was named the UNAA Membership Commission and it constitutes:
Mr. Phillip Kiboneka of San Francisco, CA - Chairman
Mr. Ed Kironde of Denver, CO
Ms. Margaret Musoke of Seattle, WA
Mr. Andrew Abe Omara of Houston, TX
Mr. Sam Sebuufu of Seattle, WA
My expectations from this group were high and I new that they would deliver a working mechanism by April 1st 2007. My ideas of membership that I hoped the UNAA Membership Commission would consider included:
More tangible benefits that UNAA will endeavor to fetch for its membership may include the following but not limited to:
- return of a member’s remains or those of their immediate family bellow the age of 18 to the mother-land as our culture may dictate within 7 days.
- Recruitment into a group but subsidized health insurance plan.
- Provision of a subsidized life insurance to ensure continuity of a good life style to a member’s family if or when the member dies,
- Subsidized fares to facilities like health clubs, air freight tickets to Africa and Europe, hotels, upscale restaurants and so forth.
- Subsidized registration fees to any UNAA organized functions like the annual convention and cultural extravaganzas.
- 50% discount from the street price of the UNAA magazine (launched last year year).
- First priority for any formal recommendation from UNAA to any governmental or other institution.
- First beneficiary of any UNAA initiated projects or programs like Investment Clubs, Immigration Forums, Family Planning Clinics, Health Summits and so forth.
- Inclusion and constant updating of member’s address and any other contact information in the newest Data Base for easy and adequate provision of the newest information of most importance in all spheres.
- Provision of adequate legal advise and protection in any scenario.
All the above and more are necessities we believe UNAA should provide to its membership, but what have you done for it lately? I asked the commission to make the code more comprehensive and set a suitable subscription fee. Ladies and gentlemen, attached please find the report and Membership Code as drafted by the above team and supported by the Board. I truly thank the members above for the great job.
